Substack Notes examples

Notes is Substack's short-form feed: short posts, quotes, links and replies, separate from the newsletter itself.

Every note here beat the median of its own writer's recent notes, so what you are looking at is the framing and the format that outperformed their normal, not a large publication's floor. Open any note to read it in full with its numbers, and filter by writer to see how one voice carries across many.

You don't have ideas because you don't read. You can't articulate ideas because you don't write. You can't leverage ideas because you don't build. You feel bored, anxious, or overwhelmed because your mind wants ideas to flow but you won't let them.

You need to write more. Without AI. Without templates. Without knowing what you're writing about. Just you, an idea, and enough time to do the difficult cognitive work necessary to reach true understanding. If you don't, your ability to think will drastically decline.

I stopped asking AI "What should I do?" and started asking: "What would someone who's solved this ten times before notice that I'm missing?" Experience-based prompting unlocks patterns I don't have access to yet. Instead of asking for answers, you're asking for the perspective of someone further down the path.

When we first launched our Substack, we took it from zero to $10,000/month in less than 30 days. And since then, and I have built our paid newsletter Write With AI to: • 110,000+ subscribers • $845,000+ in digital product sales • And $425,000+ in annual recurring paid subscriptions Which means... After years of testing and experimenting, we figured out what actually moves the needle on Substack. (And what's a complete waste of time.) So we packaged our playbook into a free email course called The Substack Newsletter Kickstarter. Here's what you get inside: • A 3-part offer stack that makes $10/month feel like a steal • The counterintuitive positioning move that attracts your ideal readers • What to post on Notes so the algorithm feeds you new subscribers daily • The dashboard settings the fastest-growing Substacks all have switched on • The 90-second newsletter structure change that flips free readers into paid subscribers • The 4-model monetization any writer can use to boost their revenue (beyond paid subs) Want free access? Like this post & comment "substack" And I'll send it to you for free. PS - You don't need to be an "expert" writer or have your niche figured out. This course will help you build a Substack newsletter, even if you're a complete beginner.

New video - I run Claude Code inside NotebookLM and it changed how I do research. I had 20 YouTube videos to go through. Instead of watching them all, I pointed one terminal command at them. NotebookLM read everything, Claude Code pulled it all back into Obsidian as a knowledge graph - sources, topics, citations linked together with deep links to exactly which video said what. https://youtu.be/qiOu7Ptjxng

Most people see "Code" in Claude Code and assume it's only for developers. They scroll right past it. No idea what they're missing. Tomorrow I'm releasing a free masterclass showing how Claude Code can become your entire AI co-writing system. Not for coding. For writing. This is what I've used to generate a lot of money for myself and clients, become a bestseller, and run my entire content operation solo. 99% of people using AI to write are still just prompting into a blank box. Claude Code puts you on a completely different level.

You can now turn screenshots into animated onboarding video. Here's how to do it with Claude: _ @bidah on X created this Claude skill called 'create-onboarding-video'. All you need to do is: 1. Install the skill. 2. Drop your screenshots into Claude Code. 3. Tell Code what you want. 4. Watch Claude build the walkthrough video. 5. Read the entire Claude Code guide here: https://ruben.substack.com/p/claude-code _ You can install it in 60 seconds: → Go to: https://github.com/bidah/skill-set → Download the create-onboarding-video folder → Drop it in Claude Skill → Restart Claude Code → Done. _ Here's what this skill actually does: 1. Reconstructs your UI as an interactive scene. 2. Animates finger taps and pointer moves. 3. Stitch your screenshots into a teachable flow. 4. Outputs a video ready to drop into onboarding. ♻️ Restack if Claude Code keeps surprising you.

This is insane. This past week I had my OpenClaw AI agent running 24/7 on a Mac Mini while I worked on my MacBook. What it handled: YouTube analytics dashboards, app development, content repurposing, social media, workspace organization. What I kept: core content creation, YouTube videos, newsletters — the stuff I actually enjoy doing. Connected through Obsidian Sync so we share the same workspace. I can see everything it builds land in real time without ever touching its machine. It's doing everything I always wanted to do but never had time for.

How to set up Claude Cowork completely in 1 day: (Save this. Never explain yourself to Claude again) ___ Step 1: The folder. Create a folder on the computer: "Claude Cowork." 3 subfolders: ABOUT ME. OUTPUTS. TEMPLATES. To download mine, go here: http://how-to-ai.guide. Don't pay anything. It's free in the welcome email. ___ Step 2: The brain file. Open Cowork. Ask it to interview you. 20 questions. Don't type. Use Wispr .ai to be faster. Cowork compiles everything into about-me .md. Strictly keep it under 2,000 tokens. Copy the interview prompt here: http://claude-co.work ___ Step 3: The taste file. Create anti-ai-writing-style .md. Ban the words you hate. Mine bans 80+. Without this file, Claude writes like Claude. With it, Claude writes like you. Download the anti-ai file directly: http://how-to-ai.guide. It's free in the email, if you click on Notion link. ___ Step 4: The strategy file. Create my-company .md. Your targets & platforms. What you're saying no to. Not your deadlines. Under 1,000 tokens. Update it once a quarter. ___ Step 5: Global instructions. Go to Settings > Cowork > Edit Global Instructions. Now Cowork knows you before you say a word. Every. Single. Session. Paste one rule: Read every file in ABOUT ME/ before every task.___ Step 6: Save tokens. Don't send follow-ups. Restart your prompts. Message 30 costs 31x more than message 1. Start fresh every 20 messages. Use Sonnet for quick work. Save Opus for deep one. ___ Full setup breakdown: https://ruben.substack.com/p/claude-cowork-20

Schedule 4 hours for deep work first thing in the morning. Then take a break and go for a run. Come back and take calls. And then escape to nature. This rhythm will change the trajectory of your life.

"My writing is only getting 75 views. This sucks." If I told you that tomorrow morning at 9am sharp you had to speak to a room of 75 people, you'd freak out.

I added one line to every prompt and the responses got dramatically better: "After you respond, tell me the one thing you held back because you weren't sure I wanted to hear it." AI self-censors more than you think. That one line gives it permission to be honest. The best feedback is the feedback that almost didn't make it into the response.

I don’t want much in life. I just want to work 3 hours per day, help thousands of people, have plenty of time for exploring hobbies, spend time outside, cook with my wife, exercise, travel whenever I want, avoid pointless meetings, and stop doing things I hate. That's it.

I don't write on Substack to teach anything. I write because I'm trying to figure out what the hell I'm doing. Every essay is just me working through my own mess in public. The fact that it sometimes helps other people is a beautiful accident.
